Gomez told Rolling Stone that she struggled to find her own sound and attract fans as she came of age. The former Disney star also revealed that she doesn’t have many famous friends to talk to about her struggles.

“I can never join a famous girl group. My only friend in this industry is Taylor. [Swift], so I remember feeling like I didn’t belong. I felt the presence of all the people around me who lived life to the fullest. I had this position and I was really happy, but … was I? Will these possessions make me happy?” He said, “I didn’t like who I was because I didn’t know who I was.”

The friends have complimented each other in recent weeks. Gomez said Thursday on her new SiriusXM Radio channel that Swift is “the most influential artist to me,” according to Billboard .

“Not because he’s my friend, but because he’s an artist who can switch between different genres and he can do it effortlessly, and I’m amazed at that. And this is very rare,” he said. “I love his process and I admire everything he does. He inspired me.”

Swift, who released her 10th studio album Midnights on October 21, also supported Gomez and her new film. In an Instagram story on Friday, the singer shared a trailer for “My Mind and Me” and a sweet note for the “Only Kills in the Building” actress.
