Miss Mississippi arrived at Jackson Medgar Willie Evers International Airport early Thursday morning with her luggage in tow.
“I’ve shipped three boxes of luggage,” Perkins said. “Thank you, UPS. Let’s just hope it gets there on time. Then I got this in the race closet. It’s our priceless prize suitcase. I had a small tote for NYC and it was hard to keep everything It’s all in one tote because I’m a girl and I pack a lot. And then this is just a few extra things I might need throughout the week.”
Perkins made a stop in New York City before heading to Connecticut.
The prelims, which kicked off Monday, were interviews with judges, evening gowns and her social impact statement about music as medicine. She hopes to share with the judges the importance of music and art in schools.
On Tuesday night, she will compete in a talent contest, but did not reveal the song she will perform.

“Let’s just say it’s uplifting. It’s inspiring,” she said. “It tells a story, and that’s really my goal. When I perform as a performer, my goal is to tell a story and resonate with the audience.”
She also got some special advice from former Miss Mississippi and Miss America.
“Cheryl Pruitt gave me some incredible advice. She said, you rest, you go compete and remember why you competed in Miss America. So I’ll take that to heart,” Perkins said.
Perkins hopes to become the fifth Miss Mississippi to win the Miss America crown.
“My goal is to bring home the Miss America crown and I hope I don’t go back to Mississippi right away. Because I hope I can serve my country as Miss America. I feel like I have a lot to contribute to This country, I feel like I understand what it’s like to want to impact people because of where I’m from. I’m happy to let that light shine.”
The new Miss America will be crowned next Thursday night.
