Hibernian 0-2 Ross County: Visitors secure successive wins

George Harmon scored his second goal in four days to put County on course for victory

Ross County extended their revival by comfortably beating Hibernian to record their first Scottish Premiership back-to-back win since March.

At the end of a nondescript first half, George Harmon met Yan Dhanda’s cross to fire the visitors into the lead.

The lefty turned pitcher for the second as he singled off Alex Iacovitti to hit home.

County move up to 10th, while Hibs drop to sixth after dropping five to six.

Hibs started with a fast start that manager Lee Johnson had promised, although they had little to do with it. County didn’t do much, though, and were happy to sit back and let the hosts’ attacks destroy their composure.

The visitors’ first chance came in the 41st minute when Owura Edwards let Lewis Stevenson run past Jordan White, but Paul Hanlon made a brilliant block to keep out ball over the wall.

Malky Mackay’s men took any opportunity that fell their way. Dhanda went to an unmarked Harmon and – for the second time in two games – made no mistake, knocking a shot into the net at the back post.

Hibs responded by bringing in Elie Youan and Josh Campbell, but that did little to shine a light on their fortunes. In fact, it was Rocky Bushiri who came closest, forcing Ross Laidlaw hard for the County keeper to collect easily.

The visitors doubled their lead 20 minutes from time. Josh Sims dropped a beautiful ball to Harmon who skipped to the byeline, drawing an unsuspecting Iacovitti who was cool and composed.

And that was it. Another poor performance from Hibs, as County push themselves out of the bottom hole.

Hibs deal with Boyle as County’s renaissance continues – analysis

A very brutal goalkeeper for a Hibs fan. There’s a lot to talk about, but four shots on goal and no cuts.

When Martin Boyle hares, there is something threatening about him, a reference. Something else is happening in the Hibs shirt, they are rabbits in the lights.

Five defeats in six games is troubling for any manager and Johnson will not be let off the hook.

County were not at their attacking best but they played their game well, taking the chances that fell their way and slowing down every time.

The Highlanders are not missing Ben Purrington as much as they feared. Harmon has been excellent in the last two games, and Mackay’s recruitment will be improved.

What’s next?

Hibs travel to Kilmarnock on Saturday while County visit Celtic Park (both 15:00 GMT) in the final round of Premiership games before the World Cup break.
