Building and inspiring community through the visual arts. The mission of SAGE Community Arts I may be biased, but I truly believe in its essence. Our latest show in the exhibition gallery is Wyoming Waters: Small Works of Watermedia. This show is everything SAGE strives to accomplish our mission.
When working to put together the call for art for the Wyoming Waters: Small Works show, it was important for artists to have minimal restrictions on submitting artwork for the exhibit. Art Call Prospectus must include work within the past two years primarily in a water-based medium (watercolor, gouache, acrylic, etc.) no larger than 20 inches in height and width, including framing and on a first-come, first-served basis. There are 40 seats.
It was decided that no fees would be charged and there would be no requirement to be a member of SAGE. By removing these limitations, we were able to make this show a truly public exhibition open to all artists working or interested in water media.
One of the aims of the exhibition was to invite artists to compose their works in time for display in a fine arts institution. Providing an educational opportunity to be gallery ready by pricing artwork, professionally displaying work (framed or finished canvas) and working through gallery liaison. “Wyoming Waters” is for some artists the first time they have shown in a gallery, or even the first time they have the opportunity to beautifully finish their work.
“Waters of Wyoming” is an exhibition featuring 38 different artists connected through water-based media. Subject matter ranges from beautiful landscapes to contemporary depictions of hauntingly abstract emotions.
As with any show or art call at SAGE, it’s always amazing to see how the work connects and relates, even if none of the artists are working together. Therefore, it was a very useful creation to place the exhibition in the gallery. All parts complement each other and enhance each other’s work.
“Wyoming Waters: Small Works Watermedia” is on display through November 26. An artist reception will be held on November 3 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. I encourage everyone to watch the show and see how beautiful it is. the combination of aquatic diversity and how it builds and inspires community through the visual arts.
