With Matchday 5 in the books, 11 teams have confirmed their places in the last 16 of the Champions League as the places in the last 16 are reduced. Some of these are familiar faces but others are unexpected. Porto, LiverpoolBayern Munich, Real Madrid, Club Brugge, NapoliChelsea, Borussia Dortmund, PSG, Benficaa Manchester City Their places are sealed but what other teams will do to join them on the 6th?

First, let’s look at the tiebreakers if a team finishes tied in points. Things are a little different than a regular league game. The first point of contention is the head-to-head scores between the respective teams. If the tied teams are tied on their points in head-to-head games, then it goes to goal difference in head-to-head games for the teams. Finally, the team that scored the most goals will have the advantage. An example is what we have seen Barcelona a Inter Milan. Inter beat Barca 1-0 at home and then drew 3-3 on the road, giving the Italian club four head-to-head matches with Barca having just one through the draw. That means if they finish level on points, Inter go through.

If multiple teams are tied after initial tiebreakers then goal difference will play in all group games. After goals scored in all club matches, goals conceded in all club matches, wins in all club matches, then away wins in all club matches. If that doesn’t work, we come to penalty points for each team and the UEFA team coefficient.

So let’s take a look at what can come out of each group
