Lessons from Tiger, Rory’s fight and words from Ashley Perez
Miss Circuit, Andrew Redington, Joe Scarnici
Hello friends, and welcome to this week’s Rogers Report. Full report from RR HQ: We’re nursing a tweaked back (but not the kind that requires spinal fusion), waiting for The Match and listening to Justin Bieber’s 2011 Christmas album. We have a lot of ground (and golf) to cover today, so let’s get right to it.
Anne Van Dam has many talents
If you think Adam Scott is the greatest golfer of all time, you probably haven’t seen Anne Van Dam beat him.
Just look at that move!
And while the rest of us were spending our weekends in crowded bars watching the United States men’s soccer team beat the Netherlands, Anne Van Dam ended up a Half-Ironman, which has a 1.2 mile swim, is 56 miles. run and run 13.1 miles.
He finished the race in honor of Jane Park’s daughter, Grace.
So, for those of you who still keep at home, Anne van Dam can win you golf, swimming, cycling and running. I’m taking the Layna Finau for a ride these days, thanks to Anne.
Benjamin Franklin once said, “in this world, nothing is more certain than death, taxes and Ashley Perez going viral on Instagram.” As GOLF’s social media manager, I’ve seen Pat Perez’s wife, Ashley, grace our own comment section numerous times, often scoffing at a comment from Rory or calling out something related to the PGA-Tour. But Perez really Tiger Woods didn’t hold his attention over the weekend.
My goodness! Tell us what you really think.
It’s also important to note that this comment comes more than a month after Pat Perez accused Tiger of his LIV comments on Claude Harmon’s “Son of a Butch” podcast.
Petty Rory McIlroy
While Rory McIlroy has become the spokesperson for the PGA Tour, he has also been shown not to be afraid to take a few photos here and there. Move over, Brooks and Bryson! Another fight in town.
Exhibit A:
B was revealed over the weekend when McIlroy explained how his feud with Greg Norman began.
Rory vows to be “pain free?” As something that annoys each of my siblings (and sometimes coworkers), this is a reason I can get behind.
Between the words of McIlroy and Perez, the last week in golf really felt like the “tell-all” episode of the Bachelor. More than I expected from the PGA Tour’s offseason.
A scholarship from Tiger
I don’t know anything about the guy in the blue shirt in the video below, except that I’m very jealous of him. The pro-am at the Hero World Challenge was a washout due to rain, but thanks to a lesson from Tiger, this man had a day he will always remember.
It’s not every day that we get to see Tiger Woods hanging out with the locals (read: anyone other than Justin Thomas), and here he is! Talk shopping on the green in Albany. It’s very difficult to hear the advice Tiger is giving this guy – but I wish they’d chosen well.
JT Poston recorded
Last week I discussed the fact that 2022 is the year of the golf wedding. Now we can add another name to the long list of engaged players as JT Poston got married to Kelly Cox over the weekend. Even better, there are a handful of travelers who have come.
Yes, this brings back memories of meeting my cousins at church on Christmas Day – until our mothers stopped letting us stay together. This is also a full circle time; Dahmen and Higgs went to great lengths more than a year ago to take off their shirts at No. Talk about having a range.
And not to take away from the bride and groom, but Poston’s caddie, Aaron Flener, sang at the wedding, and I’m sorry if I don’t approve of this guy’s pipes.
If looping doesn’t work for Flener, he should find a singing career. Or work with John Daly at a bar instead.
Tiger and Charlie
I know, I know. he lottery of Tiger-Charlie content to look forward to next weekend with the PNC Championship, so I’m cautious about doing too much (I don’t really think I can go over Tiger, but I’m trying respect your time and boundaries. ). So, I’m going to show you, without further ado, some of my favorite Woods boys moments from the Hero World Challenge. Proceed with caution.
Viktor Hovland: The host
I used to think college fraternities traveling on a budget during spring break were the most hospitable people known to man, but I stand by it. Viktor Hovland claimed the undisputed crown of retirement.
Hovland hasn’t won a tour event in any of the other 50 states yet, but part of me thinks he’s really living his best life by winning at the resorts where he feels. Life is about 200% more than rest, drinks are included and the time is normal. holy
LeBron’s golf game
JR Smith joined the Golf Channel to discuss LeBron James’ golf game and how the Lakers star could compete, but I’m not sure we’ll see him on the course anytime soon. Then again, Charles Barkley changed his swing, so I guess there’s hope for all of us.
Different good content
And finally, I’m going to show you the things that made me laugh last week.
Sammy Spieth captured all of our hearts at the President’s Championship and once again in this video. As a child, I used to go to my father’s office with him every now and then. It’s not like this.
Then there’s Cameron Smith, who watched his Open Championship win from the sidelines.
I believe that if you win a major championship, you should celebrate it for the rest of your life. Finally, we have this picture of a very young Tiger…
…and we end with Tony Finau doing what he does best (off-board, at least): dancing.
